Faithfulness

Thoughts after reading Luke 12

This chapter in Luke has one of my favorite parables in it. The concept of God’s faithfulness to us is mentioned so much. We thank God for showing up for us when we need Him.

Initial Thoughts

  • Imagine getting your butt handed to you because you were too impatient to wait on proper instruction.
    • I wonder how much of the struggles we’ve experienced were because we wanted to rush things in our lives.
  • Jesus was irritated by the actions of the people. In verse 49, He sounds like a mama 😂

“I have come to cast fire (judgment) on the earth; and how I wish that it were already kindled!”

Luke 12:49 (AMP)

Meditated Thoughts

  • Leavening is an impurity in this culture. This entire chapter was to impart wisdom about markers of people who are corrupted in spirit.
    • False teaching
    • Greed/selfishness
    • Impatience/willful unpreparedness
  • Division is like petrichor, a precursor for the change in season.
Sings: Get your house, in order OHHH 🎶
  • We cannot forget that faithfulness is a fruit of the Spirit. This means that in order to provide evidence that Holy Spirit is present, there’s some faithfulness we have to show to God.
  • That may look like using your gifts to support or lead in the local church, stewarding your family well as a parent/spouse, or even using integrity at work.
  • In other words, keep your house clean. You never know when company is coming.

Question:

Was Peter perplexed that Jesus didn’t directly answer His question? He just rolled right into another parable. Would love some feedback in the comments!
