I overslept for the first time in a long time recently…
I literally had just enough time to shower and get ready for my first meeting of the workday.
After the initial shock, not only was I irritated with myself, but I was disappointed that I missed my usual morning devotion time with God. I got so caught up in the disarray of my routine that I almost missed hearing Him say…
God“it’s okay, we can catch up later. I’ll be here”.
At that, I smiled and continued through my day. As SOON as I clocked out, I made my way downstairs to the couch (my second favorite place to study) and opened up my Bible.
In flipping through and talking about my day, I landed on this.
20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” [a]Amen.
Matthew 28:20 NKJV
This scripture is an exhortation. Jesus encouraged the disciples that regardless of the difficult (sometimes deadly) road to come, He be there with them. The same applies to us as Christians. Even when life gets out of sync with routine, Jesus was here, is here and will always be here. His top love language is quality time.
Spending dedicated time with Him is a great way to stay encouraged and full of the spiritual fruit needed to stay on the road. This doesn’t have to be the same time or place every day, but building a schedule does help make it habit.
