Have you ever created an Instagram reel & it flopped regarding engagement?

The biggest recommendation from experts to avoid this is to use #trendingaudio. As you’re looking at reels you may notice a ↗️ symbol (like the one pictured) next to the audio track. This symbol is there to recognize when multiple users are utilizing an audio in succession.

As the trend catches on, more creators will refer to the videos posted under the audio track’s stats page for examples on how best to make content that suits their audience with it.

If the audio is trendy but niche-specific it will likely surge for a spell & tail off as it runs out of niched users. Trendy generic (and just downright entertaining) audio typically surges & cycles in popularity (this is why you’ll get random likes on reels you did a month ago) boosting overall engagement as new pockets of the millions of IG users discover it.

Here are some tips when using trending audio:

  • Pay attention to how many reels have used a trending audio track. The less, the more likely your engagement will increase from using it as more users hop on.
  • Don’t use audio that isn’t for your audience. Just because it’s trending doesn’t mean you have to make it fit. Unfitting audio can push interactive audience members away.
  • Be creative! If you have a concept to use the audio that you’re not seeing in the stats page. Go for it! You may just start a subtrend of your own. 📈
